Teruko Scott Obituary

Teruko “Terry” Maejima Scott

Born October 15, 1929, in Tokyo Japan to Takashi & Kazuo Maejima. She was the second daughter followed by 3 brothers. At the age of 1l, a couple weeks into WW II, her mother succumbed to pneumonia due to the war creating a lack of penicillin. Teruko & older sister Yoko were left to help raise their younger brothers. At the age of 14, her live-in grandmother passed; at the age of 17, she lost her father.

January 31, 1953, she married an American G.I., Samuel Clyde Scott “Scotty”. Teruko was an Army wife until Scotty’s retirement in 1970. They moved many times from Fort Riley, Kansas to Fort Rucker, Alabama. Except for oldest daughter Terri (born in Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan) the other 4 children were born at Fort Riley, Kansas. After the Army: they moved to Richmond, Indiana for 5 years. In 1975 they moved to Daleville, Alabama. They built their dream home on 5 acres, this was their “Paradise”, it was large enough to accommodate large family dinners and sleepovers far when “the kids came home to visit”. It was home until Scotty passed in 2014, way too much house for one. A few years later, Teruko went to live with daughters in Texas; Florida and Indiana. She was the best Mother, Wife, Grandma. She held down the fort when Dad was in Korea and Vietnam. She was an excellent home maker; she was always beautiful and classy. She was a great hostess - all her friends loved her, too. She could make our clothes, cut or perm our hair, she could do anything. She knew how to make each one of us feel special and loved. She was an inspiration to all her children. Our Dad adored her, too, he would drive her to Ann Taylor Outlet store and wait in the car while she shopped. They took good care of each other.

Teruko departed this life February 20, 2024, she was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Clyde “Scotty” Scott in 2014, her sister Yoko McMillian, brothers: Teruo Toshiaki, and Shinsaburo Maejima.

Teruko is survived by 5 children; Terri (Mike) Mullins, Richmond, IN; Joyce Cancel, Daleville, AL; Brenda (Bruce) Winner, Orlando, FL; James (Marilyn) Scott, Orlando, FL; Lisa Scott, Austin TX. Teruko is also survived by 8 grandchildren; Stephanie (Donald) Mullins- Harrison, Derrick (Shannon) Mullins, Angela Cook-Moran, Will (Kylee) Winner, Andy (Melissa) Winner, Corrina (Alex) Scott-Hammam, Jasmine Scott, Scott Seaman; 10 great grandchildren; Noah, Zachary (Zoey), Isaac Harrison; Madison (Zaccheus) Mullins-Allen, Hunter and Isabella Mullins; Alexis, Bryce; and Maren Winner; Lucianna Hammam; 1 great-great grandchild: Everett Scott Allen.
