Cambridge City - Shirley, 88 died at her home Sunday morning October 22, 2023 surrounded by family members. She was born November 3rd, 1934 in the family home in Cambridge City, Indiana, the first daughter of Russell and Geneva (Myers) Briar. Shirley graduated from Lincoln High School in 1952, and immediately went to work for the phone company. She married David Jenkins in 1953 following his active duty in Korea. She held many administrative positions throughout her life, including secretary for the First United Methodist Church, fully retiring in 2020. She and David volunteered for 10 years at Red Bird Mission in southeastern Kentucky. Her most rewarding achievement was raising 6 children and getting to be a part of the lives of her 17 grandchildren and loving each of her 24 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David; son, Barry; and a great grandson.
Surviving her in death are her sister, Barbara Canady of Milton; her children,
David (Mary) of Goose Creek, SC, Vivian (Charlie) Hott of Conway, SC, Missy (Mike) Durham of Spring Lake, NC, Kent of West Chester, OH and Sherri (Todd) Alexander of Gallatin, TN; Her grandchildren, Mandy (Hugh) Welch, Tom (Jessica) Cokins, Jessica (Dean) Lancaster, Laura (Travis) Rhinehart, Holly (Nick) Blevins, Jason (Emma) Ashmawi, Adam Durham, Steven (Nichole) Durham, Logan Durham, Kelly (Lee) Jenkins-Woodrum, Shannon Darling, Kyle (Caiti) Jenkins, Shane Jenkins, Karrah (James) Toth, Samantha Jenkins, Matt (Kristin) Alexander, and Kristen (Drew) Moorehead.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 28, 2023, from 10am until the time of the Celebration of Life Service at noon at Marshall and Erlewein Funeral Home, 1993 Cumberland Street, Dublin, Indiana. The burial will follow at the South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin.
