Shirley Henshaw

LEWISVILLE- Shirley Ann Taylor - Henshaw, 90, of Lewisville, passed away October 28, 2024. She was born July 29th, 1934, in Vincennes, Indiana, the only child of the late Lowell and Margaret (Lehman) Taylor. Shirley grew up on a farm in Owensville, Gibson County, Indiana. She graduated from Owensville High School in 1952 and DePauw University in 1956. Shirley began her music teaching career of 34 years at Fritchton School, Knox County, Indiana, from 1956 until 1959. Shirley taught at Rushville Elementary Schools from 1959 until her retirement in 1990.

Shirley married Alan B. Henshaw in on August 4th, 1962, and was preceded in death by him on August 27, 2002. They lived on a farm in Henry County, Indiana.

She was a long-time member of the Center Christian Church. Shirley also volunteered at Millers Merry Manor and Flatrock in Rushville for many years.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Libby Henshaw of Dunreith, Indiana; her friend of many years, Lydia Gehring, of Germany, who was a foreign exchange student that lived with Shirley's family through a Farm Bureau Exchange Student Program in 1950. They remained lifelong friends.

Funeral services for Shirley will be held at the Center Christian Church, 9112 N. CR 50 W, Knightstown, Indiana 46148, (West of Mays) at 11 a.m. Friday, November 1st, 2024. Interment will follow at Dunreith Cemetery in Dunreith, Indiana. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Center Christian Church.
