LEWISVILLE- Robert Reed Watson, 95, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Addison Place in New Castle after an extended illness. A son of the late Lige and Vesta (Isbill) Watson, Reed was born in Madisonville, Tennessee on August 7th, 1928. He lived in the Lewisville Community since 1957 and retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1983 after 30 years of service. He also served from 1950-1952 in the United States Army as a Private First Class during the Korean War.
Reed was an avid horseshoe pitcher who pitched in several state and world tournaments in Ohio,
Michigan, Illinois, New York, and Utah. He was also a collector of pocketknives. He and his collection
were known throughout the Midwest. Reed loved to put out a garden and spent many hours after work
tending to his love of growing vegetables. Often, he would share his vegetables with friends and
neighbors, giving away tomatoes, potatoes, and sweet corn. He loved spending time with his family and
enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports.
Survivors include three children, Nick (wife Terri) Watson of Noblesville, Debbie Spera (husband Randy) of New Castle, and Rodney Watson (wife Cheryl) of Noblesville; Four grandchildren, Jeremy Spera (wife Amy), Mandy McQueeny (husband Kyle), Cressie Welsh (husband Chase), and Tanner Watson (wife Kailani); Six great-grandchildren, Destiny Spera (fiancée Wyatt Krikie), Jackson McQueeny, Carter McQueeny, Callan Welsh, Carson Welsh, and Nora Watson; One great-great-grandchild, Malaya Krikie; Six brothers, Rual, Boyd “Curly”, Ralph, Jim, Grady and Gary; several nieces and nephews.
Reed was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, the former Laidean Brooks, on September 2, 2007; A grandchild, Stephanie Watson, March 24, 1993; son, Steven Eugene Watson, March 13, 1998; a sister, Loretta Cochran, January 24, 2020; and a brother, RB, November 29, 1934.
Services will be on Friday August 25, 2023 at The Gathering- 902 E. Main Street/ Lewisville, IN 47352 (East edge of town, North side of U.S.Hwy.40) with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until funeral services at 1:00 p.m.. Pastor Tim Webb will officiate. A burial with military honors will follow at Lewisville Cemetery.
