LEWISVILLE- Reverend Arthur C. Whitaker III, 91, passed away Friday morning August 29, 2025. Arthur was born in Bridgeton, New Jersey on September 17, 1933 to Arthur Carl and Josaphine (Dingee) Whitaker II. He was a graduate of Bridgeton High School, Asbury College and Asbury Seminary. He taught high school in San Jose, Costa Rica (1956-57). His ministry led him to several churches which included three small churches near London Kentucky after seminary school, serving as Associate Minister at Grace Methodist Church in Kokomo, Richland Chapel in Converse, Cassville United Methodist Church, Willow Creek Methodist in Mishawaka, Bethel Methodist Church in Dunkirk, Lewisville and Ebenezer Presbyterian Churches, Cambridge Presbyterian Church in Cambridge City and Parish Associate at New Castle Presbyterian Church. Arthur enjoyed flying and received his pilot’s license while in high school. In his leisure, Rev. Whitaker enjoyed reading, playing tennis, gardening, model airplanes and trains and was a member of the Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, the former, Ruth E. Banderman; 2 daughters, Sherry (Charlie) Steele and Kelly Whitaker; 4 grandchildren, Jayanna (Doug) Volle, Jared (Christine) Thompson, Emily (Alex) Boothe and Madison Steele; 2 great grandchildren, Theo and Ezra Boothe; siblings, Allen (JoAnne) Whitaker, Jan (Diane) Whitaker, Dale Ogden. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Alfred Whitaker.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday September 5, 2025 at the Lewisville Presbyterian Church. Keith Allhands will officiate. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Thursday September 4th at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel.
