INDIANAPOLIS- Nancy Jo Shears, 85, of Indianapolis passed away on Thursday, December 7th, 2023, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis due to an extended illness. Nancy was the daughter to the late Donovan and Ruth Jackson of Lewisville, Indiana. On December 30, 1956, she married Herbert L. Shears Sr., and they spent 65 years together until he preceded her in death in 2021. She was also preceded by her infant great-granddaughter, Lily Grace Liphard.
Nancy was a military wife who supported her husband’s military career, holding down the fort during deployments and relocations. Herb and Nancy moved many times during his career to locations such as Hawaii, Washington State, Germany, Georgia, Illinois and finally retired in Indiana. Nancy worked in various positions for the government on military bases for over 20 years. Later she started Grandma’s TLC Daycare, caring for many children including her grandchildren.
Left to cherish the memory of Nancy are her brother, D. Richard (Jane) Jackson of Richmond, her loving children, Don, (Lisa) Shears, Carmel, Herb, Jr. (Kristen) Shears of Carmel and Lisa Shears of Indianapolis. Her 6 grandchildren, Ali (Ryan) Liphard, Sydney (Matthew) McConnell, Evan, Ethan and Jackson Shears, Mackensie Shears and 1 great granddaughter, Hope Liphard. More than anything Nancy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. Nancy was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Pacers. She also loved watching IU Basketball.
Friends and family will be received on Friday December 15th, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 1 p.m. at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, 115 E. US Highway 40, Lewisville, IN 47352. Pastor Doug Shilts will officiate. Burial immediately following at Lewisville Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made in honor of Nancy J.
