June Winkhart Obituary

SPICELAND-  Betty “June” (Fine) Winkhart, 89, lovingly referred to by grandchildren and family as Mimi, passed away Saturday morning December 5, 2020 at Stonebrooke Healthcare in New Castle, Indiana. A daughter of the late James Harding and Mary Elizabeth (Hicks) Fine, June was born on March 12, 1931 in New Castle, Indiana and attended high school there. She married the late Lawrence Russell Winkhart II in Anderson on June 14, 1949.  Russell passed away on November 12, 2007. A homemaker, June was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She enjoyed listening to music, working in her yard and caring for her many grand and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Ladona K. (Husband: Jerry) Cash, Lawrence Russell Winkhart III (close friend Laurie Carter Rice), and Barry Scott Winkhart (companion Dianne Syme), all of Spiceland; grandchildren,  Patrick Tyrone (Megan) Winkhart of Rockford, IL, Jody (John) Chiarotti of Greenwood, Piper (Devin) Hawk of Spiceland, Scott (Carmen) Cash of New Castle, Ryan (Jaime) Winkhart of Plainfield, Jennifer (Kris) Berry of Muncie, Lindsey Winkhart of Plainfield, Stacy Winkhart, D.V.M. (fiancé Cameron Bottema) of New Castle, Kelsey Winkhart (fiancé Matt Winningham) of Spiceland, Cory (Chelsea) Winkhart of New Castle, Karlee Winkhart and Kassidy Winkhart both of Spiceland; great grandchildren, Makenna and Myah Hawk of Spiceland, Kiela, Grant, Caleb and Luke Cash of New Castle, Joaquin and Xiomara Winkhart of Rockford, IL, Kiptyn, Kambryn, Kroslyn and Koltyn Berry of Muncie, Trenton Winkhart and Abigail and Daniel Allee of Plainfield, Asher Wright of Plainfield, Nash Montgomery of Spiceland and Camden Winkhart of New Castle; several nieces and nephews, including Todd Baily of Fort Myers, FL, to whom she was especially close.

June was also preceded in death by, son, Terry Dean Winkhart on February 10, 2017; daughter, Kristy Rene Winkhart on March 29, 1972;  brothers, Darmen Eugene (Tudge) Fine, William Donald Fine, Fred Fine and Buddy George Fine;  sisters, Geneva (Fred) Clark, Margaret Fine, Janet Marie (Charles) Lister, Martha Ann (Jim) Jarrett, Bernice Jane (C.W.) Nichols, and Glenna Fine (Tom) Baily.

June “Mimi” “June bug” Winkhart was given a prayerful send off to heaven with several family at her bedside.  She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She loved music, especially tunes from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. She listened to music with the volume turned high, and she always sang along.  She loved working in the yard, mowing grass, broom sweeping walks and driveways, raking leaves and even shoveling snow.  She loved decorating her home and the homes of her children, if permitted (or sometimes if not permitted.)  She loved the sun and was always beautifully tanned from being outside in halter top and sun shorts. She loved the beach and shell hunting.  But most of all, she loved family, especially babies and toddlers. She loved time spent with her sisters Glenna and Jane during which laughter was always abundant.   After raising her own family, much of her adult life was spent providing childcare for grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She loved tea parties with little ones and she lavished them with gifts of time and tireless play making.  But in spite of all the joy she found in a life well lived, she never quite overcame the loss of her daughter Kristy who passed away at the age of eight years.  They are reunited now.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday December 10, 2020 at Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland. June’s grandson Scott Cash will officiate. Memorial donations can be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
