New Castle- Joseph M. Weber, 88, of rural New Castle, passed away Monday evening, November 25, 2024, at Reid Health in Richmond, Indiana. A son of the late Joseph E. and Violet (Yonley) Weber, Joseph was born on July 12th, 1936, in Bellaire, Ohio. He graduated from Bellaire High School and enlisted into the United States Air Force. While stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, he served as an aircraft mechanic until being honorably discharged on March 16, 1960. Joe married the former Bessie Dale on September 23rd, 1963, in New Castle, where they built their life together. He went on to work at DANA Incorporated, from where he retired after 20 years as a machine operator. Joe was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #933 in New Castle, The VFW and American Legion Post 0052 in Bellaire, Ohio. In his leisure, "Gamblin' Joe" found joy in scratch-off tickets, trips to casinos, and yard sales. Joe loved to tinker, he was a jack of all trades, had the memory of an elephant, and possessed a wealth of knowledge which always gave him an interesting story to tell.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Bessie; 2 children, Rose Reece of Connersville and Joe E. (JoAnn) Weber of Syracuse; 3 stepchildren, Rick (Cris) Hobbs of Cambridge City, Terry (Debbie) Hobbs of Hagerstown, and Patty (Keith) Brown of Winchester; 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Joe is preceded in death by his stepson, Leonard Hobbs; granddaughter, Kelly Jo Brown; grandson, Jamie Hobbs; sister, Gloria Robbins and brother, Richard Weber.
In accordance with Joe’s wishes, a burial with military honors and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
