CAMBRIDGE CITY- James Wilson Payne, 87, of rural Cambridge City, passed away early Saturday morning February 15, 2025 at Reid Health in Richmond, Indiana. The son of the late Eli Wilson and Ethel (Greene) Payne, James was born in Covington, Kentucky on September 1, 1937. Jim grew up in Franklin County, Indiana and graduated from Springfield High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged September 3, 1959. Jim married the love of his life, the former Janet Rose Brown, in Johnson City, Kansas on March 14, 1957. Jim worked in manufacturing for area factories including MEG in Cambridge City. He was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-seven years, Janet; 4 children, James Payne II, Carol Moore, Sharon Gastineau and Diane Price; several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Nancy and Mary Jo.
A private memorial service will be held at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin.
