Obituary

Jamen David Riggs, 40, of Cambridge City, Indiana, went away in spirit to live, in peace and in love, as one with God. Jamen loved his family, especially his two sons Brylen James and Jamen Maddox, they were his everything. Among many loving memories, they will remember their dad coaching and practicing sports with them, adventures at the creek and Cope Environmental Center, and playing Fortnite together as the greatest squad of all time.

Jamen enjoyed the adventure of exploring and the serenity of meditating with nature. Jamen liked reading, learning, and passionately sharing knowledge and opinions about a variety of topics, including politics, religion, economics, history, justice, and Truth. He would engage in the most thoughtful conversations, often deliberating the laws of nature and of nature’s God, bathed in the firelight beneath the diamond sky. Jamen never met a stranger. He was an even better listener than he was a talker, and his positive attitude and optimistic disposition were immediately apparent. He was sensitive, empathetic, and compassionate toward others. He could see the profound in the seemingly ordinary, and he wants us all to keep on L-I-V-I-N. Jamen loved fun times with friends and family, tasty vegan nom-noms, and good music, especially live music, and he always had suggestions for the next song to play or concert to attend.

Jamen was born June 28, 1982, and grew up in the Cambridge City area. Jamen graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 2000, earned a bachelor’s degree from IU East, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Aspen University. Jamen was baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit and was attending Cambridge City Christian Church. Jamen was self-employed as a freelance researcher and copy writer and was previously employed at Wernle Treatment Center, New Castle Correctional Facility, Richmond State Hospital, and Welliver’s Smorgasbord.

Jamen is survived by his parents Dava (Worl) and Steve Brown, James and Dana (Gentry) Riggs; maternal grandparents David (Papaw) and Pamela (Mamaw) Worl; three brothers: Nathan (Richai) Riggs, Ryan (Kim) Riggs and Tyler (Kristen) Brown; one sister Stefani (Brown) Baker; eight nephews: Ryley, Mason, Levi, Ryan, Benjamin, Jack, Conner, Kayden; and two nieces: Landry and Abbe. He is preceded in the next life by his paternal grandparents Firman “Grandad” Riggs and Betty Lou “Mimi” (Lindley) Riggs. A private memorial service will be held with immediate family, who are deeply grateful for the compassion and care provided by Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home. A celebration of Jamen’s life will be Saturday, June 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Cambridge City Christian Church. Memorial contributions for Jamen’s sons, Brylen and Jamen Riggs, are being accepted at First Bank of Richmond, Cambridge City branch.
