DUBLIN- Iona Mae Howell, 88, passed away at her home in Dublin Monday evening November 14, 2022. A daughter of Samuel Deacon and Ruby Jeanette (Binford) Harry, Iona was born in Straughn, Indiana on September 24, 1934. From the age of eleven, Iona was raised by her foster parents, Lester, and Rose Mercer. She married Earl Howell on March 20, 1954 in Jellico, Tennessee. They shared sixty-eight wonderful years together and were blessed with five children. When she was younger, she loved to roller skate, dance, and race cars in the Powder Puff Derby. Iona never met a stranger and never complained. She worked hard and had numerous jobs in area restaurants. When the trains ran through Dublin and the tracks were nearly in her backyard, she would feed the Hobos to make sure they got a full stomach while on their journey. She would also have her children deliver food to the town’s elderly folks. Family was very important to her. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
Survivors include her husband, Earl; 5 children, Linda (Bruce) Moles, Dorothy Lipps, Lester (Kathy) Howell, Madonna (Ronnie) Haley and Sherri Parkhurst; 21 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; 1 brother, John Harry.
Iona was preceded in death by her parents and foster parents; 9 siblings, Bill Binford, Mike, Wayne, Bud and Bob Harry, Jeanette Bonwell, Bonnie See, Carolyn Hunter and Mary Butler.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday November 19, 2022 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Pastor Greg Guffey will officiate. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3-6 p.m. on Friday November 18th.
