Hal Rynerson

LEWISVILLE-  Hal Bailey Rynerson, of Lewisville, Indiana passed away on November 6, 2020 in New Castle, Indiana. Hal was born on November 23, 1930 in Tucson, Arizona to Inez (Bailey) and John Paul Rynerson. Preceding him in death were his brother John and sister Harriet.

     Hal married Adena Meurer of Terre Haute, Indiana on June 14, 1952. They were married for 62 years until Adena passed away on January 26, 2015.  Surviving are four children: Lynn (James) Smith of Indianapolis, David (Cherie) Rynerson of Rochester, NY, Bob (Karen) Rynerson of Bloomington, IL and Hal Dean Rynerson of Indiana.  Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
     A band director and music teacher for many years, Hal graduated from Indiana State University and earned a masters degree from Ball State University. Hal directed bands and taught music at Lewisville, Spiceland and Tri High Jr.-Sr. High schools from 1962 until his retirement in 1990.
Hal was a very talented musician who mastered many instruments and was a particularly brilliant clarinetist. Hal was a veteran of the United States Army in which he was a member of the Army Band and attended the Air Force School of Music. During his service, Hal was a member of the Army choir which, in addition to appearing on the Ed Sullivan Show, were regulars on the weekly ABC network television show Soldier's Parade.  In retirement Hal and Adena ran a sewing and craft business and enjoyed traveling and hiking throughout the United States.  He and Adena visited many national parks and were particularly proud of hiking down and back out of the Grand Canyon four times.  They were active members of the Indianapolis Hiking Club for over 20 years where Hal served as president, leading many hikes throughout Indiana and beyond.  Hal had a great love of books and reading.  He continued to read books up until the end of his life.  His curiosity about people, the world and it's history, combined with, as he put it , his "unquenchable thirst " for knowledge, constituted for his vast knowledge of the consequencal and the trivial.  His passion and openness for music led to his love for classical, pop, country and rock'n'roll music which he passed onto his children and to the several generations of students he taught.
     The family would like to thank the outstanding staffs at Senior Living at Forest Ridge, Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center and the Progressive Care Unit at New Castle Community Hospital who all cared for Hal with extraordinary compassion and kindness.            

      The funeral service is private with burial at Lewisville Cemetery.  Memorial contributions can be made to Lewisville Cemetery- P.O. Box 218- Lewisville, IN 47352.
