STRAUGHN- Gene J. Plummer, 82, passed away Sunday morning, July 19, 2020 at the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette, Indiana. A son of the late James David and Sarah (Sparks) Plummer, Gene was born in Irvine, Kentucky on June 11, 1938. He moved to Fayette County, Indiana as a teenager and graduated from Alquina High School. Gene was an Army Veteran and was honorably discharged on July 18, 1957. He was manager of Guarantee Auto Stores in New Castle and Anderson in the 1960’s and 70’s. He then was owner/operator of Plummer Auto Sales in Straughn. Gene retired as a private investigator, working primarily financial fraud cases for finance institutions. He was a member of the Indiana Association of Professional Investigators and Past President of Indiana Society of Professional Investigators. Spending time with his family and grandkids gave him the most happiness. Gene was a Chicago Bears fan and in his leisure, enjoyed fishing and watching all sports.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, the former Marjorie P. Pendergrass, whom he married in Kentucky on April 13, 1960.; 3 daughters, LaVonn (Fred) Schlegel, Bobbi Plummer and Jeani (Ron) Derrickson; special niece, Tammy Bolen; 4 grandchildren, Tony (Natalie) Derrickson, Kristina (Brice) Craig, Sarah (Mark) Naglevoort and Matthew Schlegel; 7 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, LaMonda Soliday and Norma Callihan; nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by a sister, Bobbi Harris.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday July 23, 2020 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Private funeral services conducted by Pastor Mal Gibson will be held Friday July 24th. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery in Connersville.
