Dorothy Carpenter

CAMBRIDGE CITY-  Dorothy Marie Carpenter, 90, passed away Friday morning December 6, 2024 with loved ones at her side at Rosebud Village in Richmond, Indiana.  A daughter of the late Charlie and Gladys (Melton) Query, Dorothy was born on March 16, 1934 at home near New Lisbon in Henry County Indiana on March 16, 1934.  She was a graduate of New Lisbon High School with the class of 1952.  She married Austin Leo Carpenter on June 27, 1952 at the home of her parents.  Dorothy was a lifelong member of the New Lisbon and Cambridge City area.  A homemaker, Dorothy and her husband farmed together while she also worked at Doll’s Market and Anthony’s Grocery in Dublin.  In her leisure, Dorothy enjoyed BINGO, playing cards, watching basketball and was an avid Kentucky Wildcats fan.

            Survivors include her brother, Eugene Query; daughter, Pam Carpenter; 6 grandchildren, Dawn (Glen) Phillips, Tracie Ingalls, Chris (Bitsie) Carpenter, Dana Ingalls, Kyle (Sarah) Carpenter and Ashley (Phillip) Alley; great grandchildren, Brianna (Tyler) Adams, Austin (Alexis) Phillips, Chandler Scholl, Karah Carpenter, Bradley Scholl, Kendal Carpenter, Kenzie Scholl, Makenzi Carpenter, Kourtni Carpenter, Sawyer Alley, Kyrah Carpenter, Lincoln Alley, Kaiden Carpenter and Finnegan Alley; great- great grandchildren, Bentley, Grayson and Oliver Adams and Kora Jackson; many special nieces and nephews, dear friends and a lot of precious pets she has cared for over the years.

            Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Austin on July 11, 1991; her son, Robert Keith Carpenter on December 13,  2020; 2 sister and 3 brothers.

            Visitation will be on Wednesday December 11, 2024 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin.  Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at New Lisbon Cemetery. Rev. Scott Moistner will officiate.
