Charles McCord Obituary

CAMBRIDGE CITY- Charles Robert McCord, 86, passed away Thursday September 2, 2021 at his home in Cambridge City with his family at his side.  A son of the late Charles Emanuel and Mary Catherine (Myers) McCord, Charles was born on his mother’s farm near Economy, Indiana on July 12, 1935.  He enjoyed working on the farm as a young boy and graduated from Economy High School with the class of 1953.  Charles served his country in the United States Army from 1953-1956 during the Korean Conflict where he was a heavy equipment operator.  He moved to the Cambridge City community in 1956 and was employed as a machinist for Perfect Circle/DANA Corp. in Hagerstown.  He retired after 33 years of service.  He was a member of the American Legion and was a former member of the Kiwanis.  Charles and several friends enjoyed their time as members of the Hagerstown Tigers Bowling League.  Charles and his wife, Marcella, enjoyed traveling and were able to spend 20 winters in Florida.  In his leisure, Charles liked to do wood working.

            Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Edna Marcella (Brown) Shore-McCord.  They were married on February 9, 1974 in Losantville, Indiana. 3 children, Charles Edward McCord, Cynthia Rose Ann McCord and Jennifer Leigh McCord-Smith; 3 step children, David Randall (Dianna) Shore, Christopher Lee (Terri) Shore and Cynthia Sue (Jimmy) Allen; 18 grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Judy McCord and Joan Hicks.

Charles was preceded in death by 1 great granddaughter, Jenna Leigh Ann Dale; 9 siblings, Ralph and Harold “Bud” McCord, Mary Catherine Feustal, Martha Jean Mullins, Clara Pierce, Carolyn Swoveland, Eleanor Harvey, Jeannette Bates and Jane Mosier.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 1 p.m. on Tuesday September 7, 2021 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin.  Chris and Randy Shore will officiate.  Burial with military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City.

The family would like to thank Aseracare Hospice for the excellent care given to Charles during his illness.
