Charles Gillespie Obituary

LEWISVILLE- Charles went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 28, 2022. He was born in Carthage, Indiana, to Carl and Virginia (Gray) Gillespie on October 10, 1933. His family moved to Lewisville when Charles was in 1st grade and he lived in Lewisville the rest of his life.  After graduating from Lewisville High School in 1951, Charles served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers in both Korea and also in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri (1954-1956).

Charles was especially proud of his son, Jeff, who joined him in full-time farming at C. & J. Gillespie Farms, LLC.  During his lifetime, Charlie received several awards such as a 25 year member of the Lewisville Lion’s Club, Citizen of the Year in Lewisville, Master Farmer, Lifetime Grower of the Year, and others. He was a longtime member of the Lewisville Cemetery Association. It was not uncommon for him to work behind the scenes in the community such as mowing at the Lewisville Park, spreading gravel in the Lewisville Cemetery, or plowing snow for his neighbors. In his earlier years, Charles attended First Presbyterian Church of Lewisville, and later attended Ebenezer Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Alison (Berg) Gillespie; his son, Jeffery Gillespie of Lewisville; sister-in-law, Dee Gillespie;  a niece and nephew, and a multitude of friends. He was preceded in life by his parents and his brother, Harold Gillespie in 2018.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future time when it is warmer. Memorials may be given to Henry County Hospice, 798 N. 16th Street, New Castle, IN 47362.
