Obituary

LEWISVILLE- Gary Lynn “Bogie” Batson, 68, passed away Friday afternoon May 5th, 2023, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana. Gary was born in New Castle, Indiana, on July 27th, 1954, he was raised in Straughn and remained proud throughout his life as being the town-paper-boy. He and his family moved to the Lewisville community, and he graduated from Tri-High School with the class of 1972. Bogie was a member of the Future Farmers of America and a member of their soil judging team. He worked for Chrysler Corporation, during their layoffs in the 1980’s, Bogie took jobs in Chicago for Wilco-Centel, Commercial Vinyl (now Imperial Wall Covering) in New Castle, to make ends meet so he could keep his home, which he was very proud of. Bogie finally retired from Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo in November 2009. He was a farmer-at-heart and enjoyed gardening which included having a large garden “to give away.” Bogie enjoyed fishing and being outdoors, hunting for mushrooms and squirrels. Bogie liked all sports and was a big Cincinnati Reds fan.

          Bogie overcame a lot of physical issues throughout his life and always maintained a positive and determined attitude, many people learned from his story. He was a people person and never met a stranger. On December 22nd, 2012, Bogie married the love of his life, the former Carol Ann Murray, at the Open Arms Church in New Castle, Indiana.

          Survivors include his mother, Barbara Louise (Bow) Batson of Lewisville; his wife of 10 years Carol; one son, Reece (Rachel Hurt) Hale of New Castle; little buddy, Gavin Hurt; two siblings, Sharon (Mike) Warrick of Brownsburg and Timmy of Lewisville; mother-in-law, Karen Murray of New Castle; sister-in-law, Kathy (Clay Watkins) Hardwick of New Castle; brother-in-law, Shane (Rebecca) Murray of Wyoming; two K-9 companions, Ozzie and Charlie; several nieces, nephews, and special cousins; and many wonderful and supportive friends.

          Bogie is preceded in death by his father, Roscoe Batson; father-in-law, Mick Murray.

          Funeral service for Bogie will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 11th, 2023, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel. Pastor Rick Davis will officiate. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday May 10th, 2023, at the Lewisville Chapel.
