Raleigh- Winfrey Jay, "Jay", Coop, age 94, went home to be with his Lord suddenly on the 16th of November at approximately 6 pm. He was born in Peytonsburg, Kentucky on March 12, 1917 to George " Wint" Coop and Julia Hood Coop. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Agnes Belle, "Belle", Groce Coop, Rushville, IN; 7 children, Bonnie (Ted) Meier, Bradenton, FL, Madonna (Yuland) Baker, Greenwood, IN, Karon (Paul) Rose, Richmond, IN, Julia Wilson, New Castle, IN, Cathy (Steve) Pauley, New Smyrna Beach, FL, Teresa Coop, Rushville, IN, Timothy (Deann) Saint Petersburg, FL. He leaves behind 22 grandchildren; many great, grandchildren and numerous great, great, grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Jackie Coop; grandson, Mathew Coop; son-in-law, Max Wilson; seven sisters and four brothers. Jay moved to Indiana from Kentucky in early 1940's and owned and operated his farm near Raleigh until he retired to Wildwood Florida in the late 1970's. In 2001 he returned home to Indiana and in recent years he resided with his wife and daughter at Flatrock River Lodge in Rushville, Indiana. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Lewisville, Indiana, and the 1st Assembly of God Church in Wildwood, Florida. He once said that "His reason to live was to raise his children and be with his family. Jay was known for his keen wit and his honesty. Jay enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing the banjo, fiddle, mandolin and keyboard. In his last few years he devoted himself to caring for his wife, "Belle, the love of his life," and daughter Teresa. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday November 20, 2011 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville. Rev. Paul Rose will officiate. Burial will follow at the Raleigh Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday November 19.
