LEWISVILLE- William R. "BILL" Copeland, 87, of rural Lewisville, passed away on Thursday morning September 2, 2010 at the Waters of New Castle. A son of the late Carroll and Gladys (Chew) Copeland, Bill was born in Spiceland, Indiana on December 17, 1922 and graduated from the Spiceland High School with the class of 1940. Following high school he worked at the New Castle Chrysler. Bill entered the United States Army on January 14, 1943 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant on November 19, 1945. He received the Purple Heart Medal with one Bronze Cluster for wounds that he received in Barendorf and Annacount, France. Following his service during World War II he returned home to farm and enjoyed raising livestock and grain. He has lived on his current farm for the past 55 years. He was a member of the Spiceland Methodist Church and the Spiceland American Legion. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, the former Stella H. Houchins. They were married in Carthage, Indiana on April 4, 1948. 3 brothers- Max (Janet) and Richard Copeland both of Indianapolis and Paul Copeland of New Castle; 1 sister- Jonell Green of New Castle; several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday September 7, 2010 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville. Pastor Carol Wiley of the Spiceland Methodist Church and David Brock of the Spiceland Friends Church will officiate. Burial will follow at the Dunreith Cemetery in Dunreith. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. on Monday September 6 at the funeral home.
