Obituary

BROWNSVILLE - William Vern Barnhizer, 84, of Brownsville passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Lakeside Manor Living Center at the Dayton V. A. Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was born on June 1, 1929 in Rushville to Verlin Leon and Lilly (Smith) Barnhizer. William graduated from Milton High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Japan where he served his country for three years. On November 28, 1953 he married the former Mary Frances Keller in Connersville. William worked for many years as a machinist at NATCO and in his free time he enjoyed farming, walking outdoors watching the birds and animals. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family. William was a longtime member of the Lawrence H. Bertsch American Legion Post 169 in Cambridge City. Survivors include his wife; three children, Jim (Karla) Barnhizer of Liberty, Sue (Tracey) Anderson of South Bend, Rebecca (Bill) Blue of Centerville; son-in-law, Gary Davis; thirteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. William was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Davis on January 8, 2013; brother, Carl Eugene Barnhizer in 2012. Family and friends are invited to Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, 1993 Cumberland Street, Dublin, Indiana 47335 on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. to share the many warm memories of William. Burial will take place at the convienience of the family in Doddridge Chapel Cemetery, Centerville.
