Cambridge City – Viola Mary Sherwood passed peacefully on August 19th, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Viola was born on June 1st, 1936, to the late Harry and Alma (Fink) Risch in Bentonville, Indiana. She was a hard-working woman who started a career in waitressing and continued on to manage numerous rental properties.

Viola was a member of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses in New Castle, Indiana and her faith was very important to her. She had a love for life and enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida, where she spent many winters. She also enjoyed listening to music, cooking and being surrounded by beautiful flowers. Of all the things she loved, nothing compared to her family. Her family was her greatest joy and the accomplishment of which she was most proud. She cherished the time spent together and took immense pride in the lives of those she loved. Those who knew Viola best would agree that she was meticulous, persistent, and wonderfully strong willed – and she wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Her presence will be deeply missed but the memories she created, the love she gave and the faith she held so dear will remain in the hearts of her family and friends forever.

Left to cherish Viola’s memory are her 3 children, Pam (Arnold) Worthington, Larry (Sheila) Sherwood and Brent (Lisa) Sherwood; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Paul Risch.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth W. Sherwood, who passed on September 14th, 2016; her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin on October 25th, 2004, and Joany S. (Lakes) Sherwood on May 23, 2002; 2 sisters, Dorothy Werner and Ruth Thompson; 2 brothers Melvin and Robert Risch.

Visitation for Viola will be held on Monday August 24th, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Dublin, Indiana. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 25th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City, Indiana.
