NEW LISBON - Verdie W. Smith, 93, formerly of the New Lisbon community, passed away Saturday morning February 24, 2018 at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. A daughter of the late Lifford and Effie (Jones) Abbott, Verdie was born in Pickett County, Tennessee on October 10, 1924. Verdie was a homemaker and widow of the late Beecher Wiley Smith, whom she married on November 6, 1943.

Survivors include 2 children, Patsy Sons and Wendell F. Smith; 9 grandchildren;

6 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.

Verdie was preceded in death by her husband; 1 son, Beecher Murl Smith; 2 brothers, Stanley and Shipley Abbott; 2 sisters, Arzie Crouch and Esther Thompson.
