CAMBRIDGE CITY - Valerie G. Cowin, 61, passed away at Franciscan St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana on Sunday April 27, 2014. A daughter of the late Renos and Mescal (Proffitt) Cowin, she was born on May 15, 1952 in New Castle, Indiana. Valerie worked at Whirley's Restaurant in Cambridge City and more recently Visteon for over 15 years. She enoyed reading, listening to music and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include children, Mike, John, Steven and Brandi Hook all of Cambridge City; grandchildren, Darian and Braeden Bishop; brothers Gary Cowin of Fort Myer, Florida, Rick Cowin of Cambridge City, Roger Cowin of Centerville; special cousin, Marcella Flannery.

Valerie was preceded in death by her parents; son, Christopher Hook; infant sister, Phyllis Jo Cowin.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday May 1, 2014 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Valerie's eulogy will be delivered by her brother, Gary Cowin. Burial will follow at Westside Cemetery, Milton. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the funeral home.
