Obituary

New Castle- Thelma I. Thornburg, 91, passed away on Wednesday April 1, 2009 at Heritage House of New Castle. A daughter of the late Clarence and Ethel Paul Rummel, Thelma was born in Wayne County, Indiana- north of Dublin on June 14, 1917. A homemaker, Thelma had managed motels in Morris, Illinois until her retirement in 1980. In her retirement years she worked in home healthcare in Wilkinson, Greenfield and Cambridge City. She moved from Willow Branch to New Castle in 1997 and was a member of the Wilkinson Senior Citizen Group, Locust Grove Church of the Brethren and the Kennard Brother-Sisterhood. Survivors include 4 children, William H. Thornburg of Spiceland, James Oliver Thornburg of New Castle, Jack M. Thornburg of Troy, Missouri and Bonnie G. Dirks of West Hills, California; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Ralph R. and Herman Rummel of Hagerstown, Charles Rummel of Rush County; 4 sisters, Helen Tutterrow of Indianapolis, Jeannette Winchester of New Castle, Jean Cullison of Hubbard, Oregon and Wilma Query of Straughn; nieces and nephews. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband William S. Thornburg on June 25, 1983. They were married in Kentucky on February 21, 1934. 1 granddaughter, Penny Louise Thornburg; 1 brother, Carl E. Rummel; 1 sister, Mabel Nelson. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. till the time of services at 1 p.m. on Saturday April 4, 2009 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville.
