Richmond - Susan G. Axtell, 61, of Richmond, Indiana passed away at her home Sunday afternoon, June 3, 2012. A daughter of the late Raymond and Elizabeth E. (Finney) Gustafson, she was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 6, 1951. Susan earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan and worked as a Registered Nurse at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan for several years. She moved to Richmond in 1999 where she worked at Earlham School of Religion in admissions and recruitment. She then went on to become a recorded Quaker minister and earn her Masters in Divinity from Earlham School of Religion. Susan helped to establish many local charities including Open Arms Ministries and was an avid traveler and had visited many places throughout the world. She was a musician; she played multiple instruments, composed her own music and played in several bands. Susan was also a member of the West Richmond Friends Meeting. Susan is survived by two children, Daniel Michael Axtell of Traverse City, Michigan and Shannon E. Axtell of Crawfordville, Florida, two grandchildren Deklan and Marley Axtell, one sister Gail (Jack) Smith of Traverse City, Michigan, and several nieces and nephews. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at West Richmond Friends Meeting, 609 West Main Street, Richmond, Indiana 47374.
