IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Steve
Smith
April 20, 1955 – June 1, 2025
CAMBRIDGE CITY- Steven A. "Steve" Smith, 70, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning June 1, 2025 with his beloved wife Cindy, his dogs and other family members at his bedside after a brief battle with cancer. A son of the late Chester and Mary Catherine (Moffett) Smith, Steve was born in New Castle, Indiana on April 20, 1955 and has four siblings. Steve was raised in the Cambridge City/Western Wayne community and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1973 where he participated on the varsity wrestling team. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1975. While stationed in California, he met the love of his life, the former Cindy Bredahl, on a blind date and they were married in San Pedro on May 22, 1976. Cindy wasn't ready to become a Hoosier right away and so she and Steve made their home in California for twenty-four years. In 1997 Steve and Cindy moved back home to Indiana and have made their home in Cambridge City ever since. Steve worked as a new car sales representative, most recently at Wetzel in Richmond, and was certified in Corvette sales. He enjoyed his job and was unique in that his relationship with his customers never ended with the sale. He was determined that his clients never felt pressured and were always satisfied with their purchase. He went out of his way to offer and provide continued follow-up service. Many times, what started as a business relationship ended up a lasting friendship. He will be missed by many. When he wasn't working, Steve enjoyed any time spent with his family, especially his grandkids, his "little dogs", and playing board games. He had collected a few Corvettes over the years, dabbled in real estate and did home renovations.
Survivors include his wife of forty-nine years, Cindy; daughter, Jessica Smith; 4 grandchildren, Joe (Michelle) and Robert (Joyce) Rapier, Lyndsey and Branden Spoonamore; 2 great grandsons, Vincent and David Rapier; 4 siblings, Randy, Mike and Rick Smith and Brenda Kimbel; several nieces and nephews.
Steve wished to be remembered cheerfully and in a relaxed atmosphere and so his family is planning a time to celebrate his life at his home from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday July 27th.
Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements, where online condolences can be made at www.marshallanderleweinfuneralhome.com
