STRAUGHN- Steven Daryl Huffman, 62, passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 11, 2015 at his home in Straughn. Steve was born in New Castle, Indiana on March 22, 1953. He was raised in the Lewisville community and graduated from Tri High School with the class of 1971. He has made his home in Straughn for the past 40 years. Steve retired in 2011 from National Machinery and Conveyor in Marion where he worked as a safety director. Steve was a patriotic and proud supporter of our military. He was an avid collector of World War II, military, Harley Davidson and Native American memorabilia. In his leisure, he enjoyed working in his shop, arrowhead and mushroom hunting and tending his garden. He was well known for his "World Famous" pickled beets. Steve was a member of the National Rifle Association and had been a member of the Straughn Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, the former Teresa Jane Witt, whom he married in New Castle on May 4, 1974; 2 children, Joshua Daryl (Stacy) Huffman of Williamsburg and Angela Jane (Joshua) Clifton of Marion; 6 granddaughters, Brooke Marie, Blake Aubrey, Alyssa Jane, Daisee Marie, Jera and Stevie Nicholas; his mother Hazel Marie (Mohler) Huffman of New Castle; his brother in heart, Royce Nicholas; 4 sisters, Brenda (Greg) Thompson of Lewisville, Carol (Paul) Huffman of Spiceland, Kathy (Jerry) Walden of New Castle, Joyce (Jeff) Stewart of Lewisville; mother and father in-law, Marilyn and Dennis Witt; brother and sister in-law, John and Julia Witt; several nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Eldon Leroy "Eck" Huffman on November 8, 2006; ; grandson Gunner Daryl Huffman on November 29, 2012; sister Sharla Massengale on November 17, 2014 and nine year old brother, Jack Huffman on March 4, 1963. Public visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday November 14, 2015 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel. Cremation will follow. Steve's family would like to extend a heart felt "Thank You" to the doctors and nurses at Forest Ridge Cancer Center for their compassionate care over the past five years. They would appreciate Memorial Contributions made to the Forest Ridge Cancer Center- 2200 Forest Ridge Parkway/ Suite 120- New Castle, IN 47362 to help them continue their work.
