CAMBRIDGE CITY- Sim Haler Jr., 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Cambridge City on Thursday May 9, 2013. A son of the late Simeon Crockett and Mary Louise (Brooks) Haler, Sim was born in Cambridge City on July 7, 1929. Sim served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on March 11, 1953. Simmy worked for Fayette County and Western Wayne School Corporations as a bus driver and custodian, he also drove a semi truck and retired from Converto Manufacturing in Cambridge City. Simmy was an active member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Dublin where he also served as song leader. He enjoyed socializing, animals, going to garage sales, puzzels and playing cards. Survivors include his wife, the former Louise Ann Shell whom he married in Richmond, Indiana on August 4, 1951. 7 children, Simeon (Sandy) Haler III of Greens Fork, Anthony (Virginia) Haler of Dublin, Nancy Butler of Cambridge City, Marcia (Richard) Upthegrove, Jeffrey Haler, Ruth Haler and Teresa (Robert) Skirvin all of Cambridge City; 29 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; 5 brothers, Charles, Clifford, Robert and Ronald all of Cambridge City and Carl of Bluffton; 3 sisters, Laurel Nash of Laurel, Virginia York and Faith Elliott both of New Castle. Simmy was preceded in death by 2 grandsons; 5 sisters and 2 brothers. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m. on Monday May 13, 2013 at the First Missionary Baptist Church at the corner of Maple and Center Street in Dublin. Rev. Jim Noggle will officiate. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City. The Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
