NEW CASTLE- Sarah Ann Cunningham, 81, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Glen Oakes Health Campus in New Castle. She was born on July 25, 1931 to Asa James and Mary Bernadette (Halbert) Ellis in Loogootee, Indiana. She married Jack W. Cunningham on February 12, 1949 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bramble, Indiana. They moved to Henry County, Indiana in 1949. Sarah enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, square dancing, and playing cards. She was an active member of St. Ann Catholic Church in New Castle, Indiana for over 30 years before becoming a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Cambridge City, Indiana. Survivors include three sons, Mark (Cindy) Cunningham of Cambridge City, Mike (Connie) Cunningham of Hagerstown, Jon (Dawn) Cunningham of New Castle; seventeen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Dorothy Spears of Centerville, Mary Keller of Fort Wayne, Harry Ellis of Loogootee, Ruth Strange of Bloomington, Jim (Jean) Ellis of Loogootee, Bill Ellis of Bramble, Charles Ellis of Walkerton, Raymond Ellis of Loogootee; brother-in-law Richard Slaven of Odon. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents; husband on December 18, 1994; a son, James W. Cunningham on August 18, 1994; a grandson, Andrew Cunningham on March 6, 1988; a sister, Margaret Waggoner on October 14, 2008. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Cambridge City, Indiana. Father Joe Rautenberg will officiate. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery, Centerville, Indiana. A rosary service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, 1993 Cumberland Street, Dublin, Indiana 47335. Visitation will follow until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
