NEW CASTLE - Ruby Eliza (Hickman) Crawford, 93, of New Castle passed away Friday evening, March 28, 2014. She was born on December 30, 1920 in Lewisville, Indiana to Fred "Skinner" and Pearl Katherine (Johnson) Hickman. She was married to Wayne Crawford on June 29, 1941 in an airplane while flying over the skies of New Castle. He preceded her in death on February 12, 2012. Ruby was a loving wife, mother and grandmother with no greater love than her family. She was a member of Sugar Grove Methodist Church, had a green thumb and enjoyed flowers and gardening, cooking and baking, and walking along Myrtle Beach picking up sea shells.
Survivors include her children, Doug (Sue) Crawford of Hamilton, Ohio, Sharon Brinson of Parker City, Ralph Crawford of Straughn, Cindy (Dannie) Brown of Knightstown, Mary Ann (Darrell) Jackson of New Castle; grandchildren, Trisa (Eric) High of Covington, Kentucky, David Brinson of Oklahoma, Douglas Crawford of Niles Michigan, Matthew (Lauren) Jackson, Lillie Daniell Jackson, Dan Brown all of New Castle, Cheryl Frye of Chesterfield Michigan, Richard Brown Bay of St. Louis, MO, Jeremy (Katie) Jackson of Cicero, Chris Jackson of Smyrna, Tennessee; great grandchildren, Benjamen, Nathaniel, Alexandria, Cristeena, Kelli, Amber, Garrin, Dan, Cynthia, McKenzie, Marlee; great-great grandchildren, McKinzie, D.J., Carman, Colton, Lily; sisters-in-law, Ellen Hickman of Lewisville, Indiana, Fay Rardin of Williamstown, Indiana; several wonderful nieces and nephews that she loved dearly; caregivers, Twila and David Taylor.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; spouse; brothers, Ralph Hickman, Orville Charles Hickman, Fredrick Hickman, Jr., Samuel Hickman; sister, Ruth Evelyn Hickman Keihn; inlaws, Ottis & Ruth (Eiler) Crawford.
The Henry County Hospice Team had become part of Ruby's family and with much love special thanks are extended to Beth, Martine, Jim, Jason, Gary, Rhonda, Judy, Gena, Ashley, Dr. Cheryl Westmoreland, and Pastor Mark and Kendala Parkinson and the Sugar Grove Chruch.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the funeral home. Rev. Mark B. Parkinson will officiate. Burial will follow at Lewisville Cemetery.
