HAGERSTOWN- Ronald Lee Owens, 71, of rural Hagerstown, passed away at his home on Thursday afternoon October 8, 2015 while surrounded by his loving family. A son of the late Russell and Thelma (Bradburn) Owens, Ron was born on February 24, 1944 in New Lisbon, Indiana. He attended New Lisbon High School and has made his home for the past 50 years in the Hagerstown community. Ron served his country in the United States Army, and was a member of the Hagerstown American Legion Post 333. He retired from DANA/Perfect Circle, Hagerstown Plant, after 30 years of service and also worked as a carpenter. In his leisure, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and mowing the lawn. He liked to watch NASCAR and was an avid Jeff Gordon fan. Survivors include his 3 children, Rodney (Julie) Owens and Rachel (companion Dennis Chaney) Owens both of New Lisbon and Rhonda Owens of Hagerstown; 1 brother, Robert Owens of Richmond; 1 sister, Virginia (Bill) Hanson of Rusk, TX. Ron was preceded in death by his wife, the former Carolyn Sue Hanning, whom he married in Hagerstown on May 15, 1965. She passed away on July 19, 2010 after 45 years of marriage; 5 brothers, Raymond, Bill, Donnie, Wayne and Mark Owens; 3 sisters, Doris Rose, Donna Jean Boatman and Frances Ogle. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 1 p.m. on Monday October 12, 2015 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Pastor Gary Taylor and Dan Davis will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at the South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin.
