Obituary

CAMBRIDGE CITY- Robert E. "Bob" Pitcher, 64, gave his life while in service to the public on Sunday September 26, 2010. Bob was born in Richmond, Indiana on June 25, 1946. He graduated from Centerville High School with the class of 1964. Bob has lived in the Cambridge City-Pershing community for the past 40 years. He and his father were the owner/operators of Pitcher Auto Parts in Pershing for many years where he was also a school crossing guard and the town marshal. Bob had also been a member of the Cambridge City Police Department and the Indiana National Guard. He had worked as a security guard for PRC ( CinRam) and for the past 22 years he has been employed by the Indiana State Police as a Motor Carrier Inspector. He loved his children and grandchildren very much and enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time outdoors. He attended the New Castle Memorial Baptist Church. Survivors include his 2 children- Tami (Brian) McKinney of New Castle and Brad Pitcher of Richmond; his grandson, Brock Owens , who considered his papaw his best friend and his granddaughter, Kamryn Owens, who melted her papaw's heart; 2 sisters- Elizabeth "Sis" Lakes of Cambridge City and Sandra Hobbs of North Rim, Arizona; several nieces, nephews and many camping friends which he made over the years. Bob was preceded in death by the love of his life the former Barbara Kay Davis. They were married in Pershing, Indiana on June 1, 1969. He will always be respected by his family and friends for the devotion and care he provided her during her battle with cancer. She passed away on May 18, 2010; father Andy "Pete" Pitcher on March 5, 2010; mother- Lois (Grim) Pitcher on August 26, 1986; father inlaw- Paul E. Davis on November 18, 2002; mother inlaw- Dolores A. (Oliver) Davis on October 17, 1994. Funeral Services with the Indiana State Police Honor Guard will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday October 2, 2010 at the Western Wayne Elemetary School Gymnasium- 801 E. Delaware Street / Cambridge City, IN 47327. Pastor Tobby Smith of the New Castle Memorial Baptist Church will officate. Burial will follow at the Zion's Lutheran Cemetery in Pershing. Visitation will also be at the gymnasium on Friday October 1 from 3:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. The Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
