New Lisbon - Robert Lee McKibben, age 91, formerly of New Castle, IN, passed away on April 10, 2016 at the Cumberland Trace Community in Plainfield, IN. The only son of the late Omar and Alice Mae (Gardner) McKibben, Robert was born on December 23, 1924 in Rush County, Indiana near Rushville. Bob graduated from Rushville High School and Ray School of Photography. Bob served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army Air Force during WWII and was honorably discharged on March 10, 1946. He married his wife of 68 years, the former Garnet Maddix, at the First Methodist Church on August 28, 1948 in New Castle, where they made their home for thirty years before moving to Anderson and later Indianapolis. Bob worked as a photographer (freelance as well as for Perfect Circle in Hagerstown, IN) and at Delco Remy (GM) in Anderson for 30 years before retiring. Survivors include his wife, Garnet; son, Curtis Lee McKibben of Byrdstown, TN; daughter, Teresa (Paul) Walters of Indianapolis; 8 grandchildren, Erin (Alan) Vonderheide, Eric (Brandis) McKibben, Amy (Travis) Banta, Lee (Danielle) Werking, Cory Werking, Jamie (Natalie) Werking, Caleb Werking, Jeremy (Alicia) Werking; two step-grandsons, Zac Walters and Nic (Jess) Walters; three step-granddaughters, Michelle Cole, April Plank, and Heather Cole; 11 great-grandchildren and 8 step great-grandchildren. Following cremation, visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at noon on Saturday April 16th 2016 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, 1993 Cumberland St. (U.S. Hwy. 40) Dublin, IN 47335. Rev. Marion Hickman will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army Honor Guard and Lawrence H. Bertsch American Legion Post 169. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Zion's Lutheran Cemetery in Pershing.
