DUBLIN- Robert G. "Jerry" Lawrence, 71, passed on Saturday August 21, 2010 at the Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. A son of the late Elmer S. and Nina Maxine (Brandenburg) Lawrence, Robert was born in New Castle, Indiana on September 10, 1938. Jerry, also known as "Slim", grew up in the Cambridge City community and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1956. In June of 1956 he entered the United States Navy and was Honorably Discharged on September 9, 1959. Jerry has made his home in Dublin for the past 49 years and retired from the New Castle Chrysler in 2000 after 34 years of service as a machine operator. Jerry enjoyed shooting sports and was a board member of the Richmond Conservation Club and a 34 year member of the Lawrence H. Bertsch American Legion Post 169 in Cambridge City. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandkids. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, the former Patricia A. Starks whom he wed in Richmond, Indiana on October 18, 1961. 1 daughter- Tamara (Donald) Pitcher of Richmond; 3 grandchildren- Brittney, Dillon and Dakota; 3 brothers- Jim (Dot) Lawrence of Biddeford, Maine, Ricky Lawrence of Connersville and Rodney (Peggy) Lawrence of Ohio; nieces nephews and many special friends. Jerry was preceded in death by 2 sons- 5 year old Skip in 1965 and infant Robert Allen in 1962. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday August 27, 2010 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Pastor Lynn Seagraves will officiate. Burial with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post 169 will follow at the South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday August 26 at the funeral home.
