Obituary

LEWISVILLE- Robert Lee Harris Sr., "Bob", 78, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday morning December 8, 2011. Bob was born in Henry County, Indiana on May 6, 1933. He graduated from Mt. Summit High School with the class of 1951. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and was honorably discharged. Bob had lived in Pocomoke City, Maryland before returning to the Lewisville community in 1975. He worked as the Lewisville Public Works Manager from 1976-1981, helping with the town's electrical, water and street needs. He was employed as a truck driver and dispatcher for many years until his retirement. Bob was a member of the Lewisville Volunteer Fire Department, and the Lewisville Town Board, he enjoyed fishing and "crabin", playing cards, gardening and working with his 1951 Farmall Tractor. Bob was known as the "Turnip Man" , he was a friend to many and will be missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. He was a member of the Mt. Summit Christian Church and attended the Lewisville Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, the former Karen S. Stephens whom he married in Lewisville on Janaury 12, 1979; 4 children, Susan L. (Wayne) Justice of Waynesville, N. Carolina, Robert L. (Rebecca) Harris Jr. of Straughn, Michael Shane Harris of Newark, Ohio and Martin Robert (Miki) of San Diego, California; 2 grandchildren, Danyelle and Tyler Robert Harris. Bob was preceded in death by 1 son, Christian K. Harris on April 16, 1979; father, Wilbur Morton Harris; mother, Ruth Joanna (Harshman) Harris-Riley; 2 brothers, Joseph D. and Earl Richard Harris; 1 sister, Beverly Burries. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday December 12, 2011 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville. Reverends Peter Zinn and Arthur Whitaker will officiate. Burial will follow at the Lewisville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday Deceember 11 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Memorial Contributions be made to the American Diabetes Associaton- P.O.
