PERSHING- Robert Steven Gouge, 68, passed away Tuesday evening August 9, 2022, at Reid Health in Richmond, Indiana. A son of the late Henry Clay and Bessie Laveren (Wolf) Gouge, Robert was born in Brookville, Indiana on February 16, 1954, in the backseat of a 1940' Chevy while parked in front of the doctor's office. He attended elementary school in Metamora and graduated from Lincoln High School in Cambridge City. Robert worked at MEG in Cambridge City for twenty years, until their closing. When he was eighteen, he lost four fingers on his right hand while operating a press there. After some time to heal, Robert overcame this adversity and lived a full life of family, friends, and love. He continued working in the steel factory and the woodshed to support his wife and children. He was a skilled carpenter and could make anything from steel shelving to luxury cabinets and hutches. His last place of employment before retirement was Really Cool Foods. Robert enjoyed watching college basketball and when he was younger, he played one pitch thirty-five and older softball. In his leisure, Robert liked to playing cards and BINGO, fishing, mushroom hunting and taking care of his five cats.
Robert was a loving father and grandfather to his children, daughter; Bobbie Jo Jackson, son; Ryan Matthew (Correll Rechae) Gouge and their children, Cody Alexander Lawrence, and Maybree Reese; son, Robert Lloyd Matthew (Carrie) and their children, Braxton Robert Lloyd Clay Matthew Gouge and Bryson Michael Roscoe Gouge; other survivors include 2 siblings, Vickie Darlene Bogue, and Gary Clay Gouge; uncle, Eddie Barrett.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years at the time of her passing on March 16, 2012, the former Pamela Jo Owens. They were married in Milton, Indiana on March 9, 1974.
Cremation was entrusted to Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. A celebration of life will be announced for some time in October.
