NEW CASTLE - Richard Thurman, 83, of Lewisville passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Glen Oaks Health Campus, New Castle after a five year battle with cancer. Richard was born on October 22, 1928 in New Castle to Ed and Ruby Thurman. Richard was a production worker for Borg Warner in Muncie for many years before retiring on January 1, 1991. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching Reds Baseball, Colts Football, Pacers and IU Basketball, and NASCAR. Richard also liked to garden, play cards, bird watch, motorcycles, boating, waterskiing, and spending time with his family. Richard married Jewel Pate on May 16, 1998 in Sevier, Tennessee. Survivors include his wife; two children, Kellie Thurman and Douglas Thurman; three step-children, Debra (Dwight) Barnes, Diana (John) Engle, and David (Tina) Pate; two grandchildren, Whitlie Turner and Nadia Thurman; five step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lawrence "Larry" Thurman of Georgia. Richard was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Thurman, Robert "Bob" Thurman, and John Thurman; two sisters, Janette Thurman-Robinson, and Carole Ann Thurman-Cross; and two pet dogs, Thurm and Edie. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 6, 2012 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville. Rev. Jerry Ingalls will officiate. Burial will follow at Lewisville Cemetery.
