Falmouth - Richard Lee Sheffler went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning May 12th, 2026, at the age of 92. Lee, as most people knew him, was born in Sullivan County Indiana on January 7th, 1934. He grew up on his parents’ farm in Indiana with his 3 brothers. At Carlisle-Haddon High School, Lee was Vice-president of his Senior class where he also played softball and forward, #53, on the varsity basketball team.
On June 26th, 1954, Lee married his first wife Mary Jo Hottle in Oaktown, Indiana. Mary Jo passed away December 1st, 1956, when their only son, Donald, was just 15 months old.
Lee continued working as a cabinet maker at Midwest Trailer Homes where he would then meet his future wife Shirley Jean Ball. Lee and Shirley married in Oaktown, Indiana on February 15th, 1958. Together, with his young son Donald, they moved to Shawnee Creek Farm in Rush County, Indiana. Lee and Shirley had three daughters together (Susan, Teresa and Angela) and raised all 4 children on the farm. They enjoyed camping and boating.
Lee dedicated his life to loving God, providing for his family and serving others. By example, he taught his family what it means to work hard, have fun, be of service, and always be caring and thoughtful. He valued attending church and time with family. He served on 2 missionary trips – one to Haiti and one to the Southwest Indian School in Arizona. He enjoyed visiting extended family and found the importance in staying connected to loved ones.
Lee continued his love for farming for over 60 years in rural Indiana. He semi-retired from farming in 1993 when he decided to rent out their land at Shawnee Creek Farm. He was hired to help maintain another local farm and continued to work until he fully retired in 2016.
Lee was a respected man in his church and farming community.
Lee was a loving father to Donald Sheffler, Susan Sheffler, Teresa (Greg) Holz, and Angela (Sam) Wagoner; Grandfather to Kaitlyn Holz, Sean Wagoner, Kristin Kellar, Andrew Wagoner and Emily Wagoner; Great-grandfather to Claire Kellar, Alexander Wagoner, Titus Kellar, and Sullivan Wagoner.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 2 ½ years, Mary Jo Sheffler, his second wife of sixty-five years, Shirley Sheffler and his daughter, Susan Sheffler.
