CAMBRIDGE CITY- Pete Darter, 79, passed away Monday morning June 20, 2016 at his home in Cambridge City, Indiana. He had been in failing health. A son of the late Forrest J. "Boots" and Darlene V. (Petersohn) Darter, Pete was born in Dublin, Indiana on April 22, 1937. Pete was a lifelong nurseryman. He began working for his father at Hillside Nursery as a young boy and in 1971 he and his brother Donn and their wives became co-owners of the nursery until their retirement in 2003. Pete enjoyed riding motorcycles on the road and also motocross racing. He won several trophies throughout his years of racing. He was and avid fisherman. His memberships include past president/ member of the BASS Fishing Club and the Dublin Volunteer Fire Department where he also served as Fire Chief. In his leisure, Pete enjoyed working outside, going to the woods to cut firewood, drinking coffee at A.T. & I and catching up on the latest gossip and the Dollar Menu at McDonalds. Survivors include his children, Greg Darter of Milton and Kim (Gale) Huntsman of Cambridge City; 2 granddaughters, Amanda (Corey) Hawkins of Fishers and Stephanie Huntsman of Carmel; brother, Mickey Darter of Dublin; sister, Soozi Worley of Cambridge City; nieces and nephews. Pete was preceded in death by his wife, the former Nancy Ann Jobe, on August 2, 2015. They were married in Peru, Indiana on February 22, 1957; brother, Donn E. Darter on February 4, 2014.
