New Castle- Opal Marie (Shepherd) Johnson, 96, passed away on Wednesday evening January 5 , 2011 at her home in New Castle, Indiana. A daughter of the late William Franklin and Nettie Brooks (Andres) Shepherd, Opal was born in Dupont, (Jennings County) Indiana on November 27, 1914. Formerly of the Ogden - Knightstown area, Opal has made her home in New Castle since 1985. She was a member of the Ogden Methodist Church and had worked for Stop 3 Truck Stop for several years. Opal enjoyed playing Bingo and going to Rising Sun. Survivors include 2 children- Ethlyn Beth Applegate of New Castle and James A. (Linda) Johnson of Greenfield ; 8 grandchildren; several great and great great grandchildren; 2 sisters- Leta Stout of Wanamaker and Syrena Turner of Indianapolis; nieces and nephews. Opal was preceded in death by 2 sons- Larry Wayne Johnson in May of 1986 and Jerry L. Johnson in September of 1995; 2 sisters- Ruby Fisher and Mabel McGuire ; 4 brothers- Arthur, Frank, Harley and Lloyd Shepherd; great grandson- Ian Griffen. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services at 2 p.m. on Saturday January 8, 2011 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Pastor Carolyn Stoten of the Ogden Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at the South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin.
