Obituary

NEW CASTLE- Opal Kay "Free" Kendall McQueen was born on March 18, 1944 in Ashland, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Hucy Phillip Free, Sr. and Eva "Lamberson" Ward Free New.

Opal gained her wings on July 12, 2024 at IU Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family. She is with her Lord and Savior, her family and friends that have gone before her.

Opal was a homemaker all her life and helped raise her two sons along with 100 children over the years. She helped single mothers watch their infants until school age. The most precious were watching her own granddaughters and great grandchildren. She loved doing word search puzzles, reading her bible and making sweet tea for church functions.

Opal was a long-time member of Grace Baptist Church of New Castle.

Opal is survived by her sons, Troy (Marilyn) Kendall and Timothy Kendall both of New Castle.

Two granddaughters, Kaylee (Anthony) Rhyndress of New Castle; Aleesa (Doug Fish) Brouwer of New Castle. Five great grandchildren, Leeah Brouwer, Bailee Brouwer, Zaylor Rhyndress, William Brouwer and Cartyr Rhyndress, all of New Castle; Several nephews and nieces; And her three fur-babies, A|pha, Mia and Olaf.

Her step children, Jeffrey (Teresa) McQueen of Anderson, Peggy McCalIister of Muncie, Bryon (Laura) McQueen of Muncie, Daniel (Nichole) McQueen of Brunswick, GA, Deric (Destiny) McQueen of Briceville, TN; Several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren. And a step brother, Bill (Shirley) New of New Castle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hucy Phillip Free, Sr and Eva "Lamberson" Ward Free New; Her step dad, Kenneth New; Her husband, David Eugene McQueen; Her brothers, Hucy Phillip Free Jr., Clarence Leroy Ward, Delbert Free and Howard Free; Her sisters, Mable Ladd, Betty O'Dear, Mary Mitchell, Irene Swim and Hazel Lockridge; And her step-daughter, Heather Walsh; Also several step brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 from 4 - 8 pm at Grace Baptist Church, 2649 Q Avenue, New Castle 47362. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 1 pm with one hour visitation prior at the church. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.  Officiating will be Pastor Brian Neal.

She was a loving Wife, Mother, Mamaw, Gi-Gi, Aunt and Friend. She will be greatly missed and leaves a big void in the lives of all those who loved her.
