Norman Dale Green, affectionately known to the family and friends as Norm and lovingly called “Pappaw” by his older grandchildren and “Paps” by his youngest grandchildren passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on June 24, 2026, at the age of 85.
Norman was born on December 12, 1940, in College Corner, Ohio to Robert Hayes and Hazel Maxine Lancaster Green. Norman lived in Union County until he graduated from Short High School in 1959 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
Norman met the love of his life, Phyllis Kay Barnes. Their love story began while meeting at a high school choir assembly in Dublin and they were smitten ever since. Upon enlisting in the Navy, Norman knew he wanted to marry Phyllis and on December 06, 1959, they were joined in marriage and were together for 61 years until Phyllis’ passing in 2021.
Their lives were full of adventures as military families’ lives are. They left Indiana and started their married life in San Diego, California and moved to their home in Spring Valley where they began their family and had Norman Jr., Cynthia, and Gary. Upon retiring from the Navy in 1972, Norman and his family returned to Liberty, Indiana and a few years later, their daughter Tricia was born. Norman worked at Roots Blowers for several decades until his retirement in 2004. Norman decided their adventures were not over, he and Phyllis decided to enjoy their retirement in Florida where they lived out their final years enjoying the sand and sunshine. Norman was an avid fisherman, hunter and when in Indiana going mushroom hunting. Norman always had a smile on his face and a kind word for those he met. Norman enjoyed spending his time with his family and watching any kind of sporting event.
Norman is survived by his children, Norman Green Jr of Washington State, Cynthia Millican of Indiana, Gary Green (Connie) of Ohio and Tricia Smith (David) of Florida and a brother, Ivan Green of Florida, 12 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and two grand dogs.
Norman is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Phyllis, his parents Robert and Hazel Green, his siblings Robert Green, Kenneth Green, Velva Hoch, and daughter-in- law Deborah Green.
A time to celebrate Norman's life will be on July 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to time of funeral services at noon, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Dublin, Indiana. Family and friends are invited to attend. Burial with military funeral honors provided by contingents of the United States Navy and Lawrence H. Bertsch American Legion Post 169 will immediately follow at Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City, Indiana.
