BENTONVILLE- Nina L. (Powell) Summan, 92, passed away on Thursday December 3, 2009 at the Reid Hospital in Richmond. A daughter of the late Homer and Ruby Dickey Powell, Nina was born on November 26, 1917 south of Bentonville on a farm that has been in her family since 1833. She lived there until her marriage at 20 years old and moved back there in 1980 until her death. She has lived within 2 miles of Bentonville her entire life. Nina was the last surviving member of her 1923 1st grade class and graduated from the Bentonville High School with the class of 1935. She was a homemaker and member of the Posey Township Homemakers Club, having served in every office, a charter member of the Bentonville Volunteer Fire Department Womens Auxillary, Historic Connersville and a member of the Bentonville Christian Church since 1941. Her lifes priority was her family. She always put her family first. Her hobbies include raising gladiolas ( with over 1000 at one time) and collecting recipes. Nina will be fondly remembered by her family and friends for the many specialty food items she prepared. At one time she was the owner of the first candy molding business in Fayette County. Survivors include 2 children, Kenneth (Pat) Summan of rural Connersville and Suellen K. "Suzy" (Tom) Revalee of Bentonville; 2 granddaughters, Ann (Eric) Graef of Fishers and Amy (Tony) Weber of Indianapolis; great granddaughter, Samantha Graef; 3 step grandchildren, Mary (Jeff) Case and Greg Revalee of Connersville, Angela (Grant) Newton of Indianapolis; 2 step great grandchildren, Allyson Revalee and Josh Godsey of Connersville. Nina was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years at the time of his death on January 20, 1988, Frank C. Summan. They were married in Rushville on July 26, 1937; and an infant brother, Carl James Powell. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday December 8, 2009 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Private funeral services conducted by Rev. John Heflin will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at the Bentonville Cemetery.
