Straughn- Neil Gaddis, 94, passed away Wednesday morning January 12, 2011 at the Waters of New Castle. A son of the late Ernest and Treva (Seale) Gaddis, Neil was born in Fairmount, (Grant County) Indiana on June 21, 1916. Neil graduated from the Fairmount High School with the class of 1933 and has lived in the rural Straughn community since 1936. He was co- owner of Johnson & Gaddis Milk Transport for several years before being employed as a truck driver for Marsh Supermarkets from 1960 until his retirement in 1985. Neil enjoyed watching all types of sports and has been an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan since 1926. He was a member of the Richsquare Friends Church. Survivors include 3 children- Terry and Joyce Gaddis both of Straughn and Douglas (wife Barb) of Centerville; 5 grandchildren- Julie (Tom) Freeman, Rachel (Joe) Mullen, Justin (friend Angela) Gaddis, Brandon (Amy) Gaddis, Trenton (friend Jolie) Gaddis; 4 great grandchildren- Scott, Mary, Rana and Tristan; 1 brother- Charles "Chic" Gaddis of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 1 sister- Irene Reeves of Alexandria; nieces and nephews. Neil was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mildred Lois Johnson on May 16, 2005. They were married in Straughn, Indiana on March 25, 1939; daughter in law- Jean (Schroeder) Gaddis on September 21, 1997; 2 brothers- John and Harold Gaddis; 2 sisters- Louise Newman and Thelma Lucille Matrejek. Visitation will be from 2 - 6 p.m. on Saturday January 15, 2011 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville. Cremation will follow. Memorial Contributions can be made to the donors favorite charity.
