CAMBRIDGE CITY - Michael R. "Mike" Jarvis, 64, passed away unexpectedly on Monday afternoon April 14, 2014. A son of the late Raymond Eugene and Mary Catherine (Hendricks) Jarvis, Mike was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on November 27, 1949. Mike has lived most of his life in the Western Wayne community and was a graduate of Lincoln High School with the class of 1968. He has made his home in Cambridge City since 1977. Mike served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on September 1, 1971. Mike had worked for over 20 years at M.E.G. and retired from the Custodial Dept. of Western Wayne School Corp./ Lincoln High School in 2012. Mike loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed being outside camping, bird watching and working in his yard. He was an avid sports fan and member of the Lawrence H. Bertsch American Legion Post 169.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, the former Kala S. Harris, whom he married in Richmond, Indiana on June 3, 1970. 3 children, Angela Jarvis of Cambridge City, Michael G. (Jessica) Jarvis of Indianapolis and Luke A. Jarvis of Cambridge City; 4 grandchildren, Leanne (Josh) Smith, Stephanie Taylor, Morgan and Sidney Jarvis; 3 great grandchildren, Jaden, Kinsley and Brycen; 4 brothers, Gene (companion Marilyn Robinson) Jarvis of Evansville, David (Judy) Jarvis of Avon, Jack (Becky) Jarvis of Cambridge City, Terry (Paulette) Jarvis of Dublin; 1 sister, Marilyn Fisher of Milton; sister in-law, Janice Hulsey; nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Jarvis; sister in-law, Barbara Jarvis and brother in-law, George Fisher.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday April 18, 2014 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Rev. Danny Berry of the Cambridge City Christian Church will officiate. Burial with military honors conducted by Post 169 will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today Thursday April 17th at the funeral home.
