Obituary

LEWISVILLE - Melvin Keith Herbert, 75, of Lewisville passed away Monday, September 10, 2012 at I.U. Health-Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on July 25, 1937 in Rushville, Indiana to Lewis and Dorothy May (Dungan) Herbert. Melvin served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1960. After over twenty years of service he retired from IMC/Rush County Co-Op where he worked as a chemical and fertilizer applicator. Melvin also worked part time at Horeshoe Bend Golf Course. He enjoyed spending time outdoors; hunting squirrel and fishing with his nephew, Kim Herbert; mushroom hunting; golfing; and taking care of his favorite inside cat, Sarah. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rushville. Melvin is survived by his wife of 18 years, Belinda (Scott) Herbert; Wanda Pile and Candy Dougherty, both of Rushville, whom he raised as his own daughters; four grandchildren, Misty, Brent, Brian, and Michael; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Dovie) Herbert of Perry, Georgia; two sisters, Mary and Jane, both of Tennessee; several neices and nephews. Melvin is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald and Billy Herbert. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14, 2012 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville, Indiana. Father Jeremy Gries of St. Mary's Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery in Mays, Indiana. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until the time of funeral service at the funeral home.
