Melissa "Missy" Daun Hormel, 45, formerly of Richmond, passed away Saturday evening, July 28, 2012 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin, Indiana. Missy was born April 18, 1967 in Beckley, West Virginia to George Pat Altizer Sr. and Anna Lee Altizer. Missy spent most of her life in Richmond before moving to Bargersville, Indiana in 2002. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and collecting frog figurines. Survivors include her husband, Thomas Hormel of Bargersville; three children, William Patrick Hicks of Utah, Candace Ann Spurlock of Bargersville, and James Leroy Fields Jr.; three grandchildren, Dawson Ray Spurlock, Peyton Elissa Daun Spurlock, and Layla Rose Lictenfelds; two brothers, George Pat Altizer Jr., Billy Joe Altizer, and a sister, Brenda Lee Atwell. Missy was preceded in death by her parents and a father-in-law, Thomas B. Hormel. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until the time of services at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2012 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin, Indiana. Rev. Bob Rutherford will officiate. Private burial will follow. The family requests in lieu of flowers a memorial contribution be made to the Melissa Hormel Memorial Fund or the Diabetes Foundation.
