Obituary

LEWISVILLE- C. Maxine McFarland, 83, of rural Lewisville, passed away Saturday morning September 26, 2015 at Addison Place in New Castle, Indiana. A daughter of the late Alger Tensley and Frances Rosalie "Shorty" (Hill) Finchum, Maxine was born in Dandridge, Tennessee on October 28, 1931. Maxine and her family moved to Indiana when she was a young child and was a graduate of Hagerstown High School with the class of 1950. She and her husband David farmed and raised angus cattle as she was a stay at home mom with her children. When her children were older she became Postmaster of the Dunreith Post Office from where she retired after many years of service. Maxine served as past president of the State Angus Auxiliary and committee member of the State Angus Association . She was a member of the Henry County 4-H Board, Tri Kappa Sorority and the Lewisville Presbyterian Church where she served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and member of the Women's Auxiliary. In her leisure, Maxine enjoyed sewing, shopping and traveling. Survivors include 3 children, Diane (Bryan) Kendrick of Farmland, Nanette (Stephen) Welsh of Spiceland and Kent (Ginny) McFarland of Lewisville; 4 grandsons, Russell and Ryan Cronk, Bryce and Chase Welsh; 5 great grandchildren, Cody, Shawna, Avery and Kellan Cronk and Callan Welsh; 3 step grandchildren, Amy Cox, Stacy and Dustin Bruns; 4 step great grandchildren, Cody and Kendall Cox, Willa and Stella Bruns; 1 sister, Joyce (Tom) Weber of Lewisville; 1 niece and 1 nephew. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, David R. McFarland on December 14, 2002. They were married in Lewisville on December 24, 1950; 1 foster brother, Bud Schmidt. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the start of funeral services at 1 p.m. on Wednesday September 30, 2015 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel. The Reverends Peter Zinn and Arthur Whitaker will officiate. Burial will follow at the South Mound Cemetery in New Castle. Memorial Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
