MILTON - Maxie Mae Atwood, 88, passed away Saturday afternoon March 11, 2017 at her home in Milton, Indiana with her son by her side. A daughter of the late William "Bill" and Mary P. (Clark) Smith, Maxie was born on June 24, 1928 in Orlando, Rock Castle County, Kentucky. She has made her home in the Milton community since the early 1980's. Maxie was a homemaker who enjoyed working around her yard and watching the birds at the feeder.

Survivors include 4 children, David Atwood of Milton, Michael (Karen) Atwood of Marengo, Jerry Atwood of Connersville and Jennifer Rose (Steve) Henderson of Payneville, KY; 4 step children, Orville Atwood of Marengo, Thomas Atwood of Milltown, Boyd Atwood of Kirby and Loyd Atwood of Corydon; several grand and great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Maxie was preceded in death by her husband, Willard D. Atwood who died on March 19, 1981. They were married in Jeffersonville on March 10, 1955; 2 step sons, Charles and Richard Atwood; 10 siblings.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday March 15th at Everdon Cemetery, just south of interstate 64 off of State Road 66 on County Road 254 in Carefree, Crawford County, Indiana 47137.
