CAMBRIDGE CITY- Mary Ruth "Ruthie" Kelsay, 75, passed away at her home on Friday afternoon September 24, 2010. A daughter of the late D.P. and Hatti (Combs) Prater, Mary Ruth was born in Elmrock, Kentucky on June 12, 1935. Mary Ruth graduated from high school in Hindman, Kentucky with the class of 1954. She received a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Morehead State University. Mary Ruth taught elementary school in Knott County, Kentucky and Greenville, Ohio and retired from the Milton Elementary School- Milton, Indiana in 1990 after a total of 34 years of teaching. She has lived in the Cambridge City, Indiana community since 1960 and been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cambridge City since October 15, 1995. Mary Ruth was also a member of the church group- Mary Martha Circle, and Phi Chi Epsilon, Lambda Chapter- Cambridge City. Mary Ruth enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include 4 brothers- Walter Prater of Hazard, KY, James Prater of Paris, KY, Paul Prater of West Liberty, KY and Willie Prater of Hindman, KY; 2 sisters- Jessie Creech of Cumberland, KY and Mildred Risner of Hindman, KY; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert R. Kelsay on April 7 , 2008. They were married on August 17, 1963 in Martin, Kentucky ; 4 siblings- Tressie Messer, Ralph Prater, Wilma Sloan and Eva Short. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday September 28, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church- 238 W. Main Street / Cambridge City, IN 47327. Pastor Judy Marshall will officiate. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. on Monday September 27 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, 1993 Cumberland St. / Dublin, IN 47335 where Phi Chi Epsilon Sorority will conduct a memorial service at 7:45 p.m.
